CDM Advisory Service
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 replaced the old CDM 2007 in April 2015 and introduced significant changes to the previous requirements. Although the over-riding principles of design and construction risk management remain unchanged, reliance on third parties such as CDM–Co-ordinators to policy compliance has now become a thing of the past.
The key changes include the following:
Removal of the CDM Coordinator role and introduction of the new “Lead Designer” role to encourage early and full participation of designer in the process of risk management and project safety planning during the pre-construction phase of the project. The new duty holder is identified as the Principal Designer under the regulations.
Extension of the client’s duties to cover arrangements such as project notification, appointment of suitably skilled project resources, provision of essential site specific information to all design and construction team members and ensuring adequacy of construction phase project safety arrangements have been clearly emphasised in the new regulations.
Construction projects undertaken on behalf of domestic clients are now covered under the new regulations with provision for the Principal Designer and the Principal Contractor to assist the client with discharge of practical aspects of their responsibilities.
Changes to the notification process which now imply that notifiable projects are no longer the trigger for CDM compliances.

GEP Safety Consultants have been offering CDM related services to clients since the introduction of the regulations (in 1994) and have competent consultants who can assist clients with discharge of their responsibilities under CDM 2015.
We have worked for numerous clients and successfully delivered advisory work on projects of varying nature, scale and complexity.
Our clients are predominantly from the Education, Commercial, Financial and Construction Sectors. We also have individual expertise in working with the MOD, RAF, Retail and Housing Sectors.
Acting as CDM Advisors, we are able to offer clients a holistic approach to project safety planning whilst adding value which goes beyond the core requirements of the regulations.
Our CDM Advisors are individual members of the Association of Project Safety (APS), Institute of Occupational Safety (CMIOSH) and the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (MIIRSM).
Our Directors have a deeply rooted background in design and hold corporate membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) which we feel offers a credible opportunity for us to input positively towards all aspects of design safety whilst fulfilling our role as CDM Advisor.
